We could be in for a loud night.
A severe thunderstorm watch has been put in place by Environment Canada:
“Scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop early this evening in areas near northern Lake Huron. Storms will then move rapidly southeastward to reach portions of the western GTA during the mid to late evening hours.”
There is the potential for winds to reach up 100 km/h with large hail.
Current forecasts show the rain starting just after 8:00 p.m. and coming to a close at roughly 10:00 p.m.. Environment Canada says thunderstorms may finish by midnight.
Things could change, but it’s important to be ready for the worst. Environment Canada issued the following warning:
“Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Intense lightning is likely with any thunderstorm that develops. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!”
