Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced a $252-million aid package for Canada’s agriculture and food industries during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Trudeau says this includes money for those holding animals they can’t sell, funding for the dairy industry and $50-million to buy food before it goes bad and send it to groups such as food banks.
The Prime Minister says the surplus food purchase program will support farmers and the most vulnerable in our communities.
Trudeau adds that farmers are still worried about having enough workers and protective equipment for the rest of the season and they are working with provinces and territories to find lasting solutions.
