As more than a month of quarantining and physical distancing has gone by, Regional Councillor for Ward 4, Zeeshan Hamid, talks to how each resident is handling the current situation. He says it varies depending on the person.
Reflecting on federal financial support, Hamid says that most residents have been able to get the $2000 a month despite there being some struggle with getting E.I. at the beginning.
He is not sure how long the Region will stay in a state of emergency; saying that it is dependent on the province.
When discussing by-law enforcement regarding social distancing, Councillor Hamid says Milton is more focused on education and warnings over finings, although that’s not to say they won’t issue a fine if necessary.
He feels that the vast majority of people are co-operating. He believes that is shown in how the province, region and country are doing in comparison to the United States.
Hamid reflects on their goals as a region.
He says they will be looking to the province for help and guidance but he predicts they will have to make a lot of adjustments in order to balance the budget next year.
