The Town of Milton could lose millions in revenue during the COVID-19 outbreak.
Town staff provided an update to Town Council at a special council meeting recently.
The report states that there could be more than $14 million in revenue losses if closures were to extend to the year-end.
Regional Councillor for Ward 4, Zeeshan Hamid, says cutting unnecessary services during the outbreak is saving money.
Councillor Hamid adds that Milton Transit is an example of something that could be making more revenue if it weren’t for the COVID-19 outbreak.
The report provided by Town Staff says that if services were to re-open by the fall, some losses could be somewhat corrected. It says that, “if the Town’s fall programs are able to generate approximately the normal amount of revenue, the existing list of mitigations may be sufficient to offset a large portion of the budget pressure that is expected.”
