On Monday, Milton’s Town council unanimously voted in favour of deferring the Town’s property taxes, interest free in order to help residents get through these uncertain times.
Regional Town councillor for ward 4, Zeeshan Hamid talks about the decision.
He explains why they settled on this time frame.
Council will revisit the timeline as necessary as the situation continues to unfold.
Councillor Hamid says that they will have a challenging budget next year with the loss of user fees and transit fees but he does not believe the deferrals will make it challenging as it is only a deferral and they will get that money.
As we continue to stay home and practice social distancing, Councillor Hamid encourages people to stay the path.
Other actions the Town has taken to help residents include suspending parking enforcement rules and preventing the use of playgrounds by taking down swings and eliminating transit fare at this time.
