The provincial government has announced the prohibition of any gathering of more than 5 people.
Premier Doug Ford says “If we are going to stop the spread of COVID-19 now and keep our communities safe, we need to take extraordinary measures to ensure physical distancing.”
Adding “I strongly encourage everyone to do the responsible thing and stay home unless absolutely necessary.”
The order does exclude any family with more than 5 family members and child care centres who have reopened to care for the children of frontline health care workers as long as the centre does not surpass 50 people.
Funerals will still be able to proceed but can only have 10 people in attendance at a time.
Minister of health, Christine Elliott, says “we are acting on the best advice of our Chief Medical Officer of Health and other leading public health officials across the province.”
This order replaces a previous emergency order prohibiting organized events of 50 people such as parades, weddings, social gatherings and communal services within places of worship.
