
Ontario Premier Doug Ford has declared a state of emergency.
ALL RESTAURANTS, BARS, CHURCHES, SCHOOLS, DAY CARE CENTRES AND MORE HAVE BEEN ORDERED TO CLOSE IN AN EFFORT TO PREVENT THE SPREAD OF COVID-19.
Based on advice of Chief Medical of Health and other health experts. The government says they are taking every step possible to flatten the curve.
Premier Ford says this wasn’t an easy choice.
The announcement was made during a press conference this morning with Christine Elliott, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health, Rod Phillips, Minister of Finance, and Solicitor General Sylvia Jones.
Premier Ford says they must offer full support to help health care sector fight the spread. He announced the prohibition of public events over 50 people including parades, events, all facilities indoor recreation, libraries, schools, child care centres, bars and restaurants, unless they provide take out, theatres, concert venues.
Effective immediately until the end of March.
The vast majority of businesses and essential services will remain open and be available to everyone.
Grocery stores, public transit, office buildings and more will continue to operate.
Premier Ford says part of this is the implementation of an emergency relief plan.
He also says we need to do everything we can to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
