Leaders from the Halton Region met with the Minister of Transportation yesterday in Ottawa to voice their opposition to the CN Intermodal Hub.
Milton Mayor Gordon Krantz was joined by other leaders in the Halton Region. They all had a simple message for the government.
Mayor Krantz adds that this project won’t only affect those in Milton, but the entire Halton Region.
Joining Mayor Krantz was Mayors of Oakville, Burlington, Halton Hills, and Milton MP Adam van Koeverden.
Months ago, the CN Review Panel released a report on the Environmental Assessment of the Project.
Within the summary, the Panel said that the project would cause significant environmental effects on the area.
However, those effects would have happened regardless due to the planned development in the area.
One of the concerns that the panel has raised revolves around air quality.
The panel states in the summary that the project would have significant adverse cumulative environmental effects on air quality, human health, wildlife habitat, and the availability of agricultural land.
There will however, be a community event about CN’s proposal co-hosted by Milton MP Adam van Koeverden, Halton Region and the Town of Milton on Saturday, March 28 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Craig Kielburger Secondary School in Milton.
