Workers at the Maplehurst Correctional Facility are participating in the Correctional Cares about the Community event.
This is the third year where they will stand outside the jail for 24-hours in the cold.
Money raised will go towards Halton Women’s Place.
Union President of Opseu Local 234, Ryan Graham, explains why they chose to start this event three years ago.
Graham adds that it’s important to protect the public who are negatively impacted by mental health issues.
He says the Correctional workers are constantly looking to improve the lives of the people at their facility.
Graham, says he wants the image of Correctional workers to change a bit.
The 24-hour In the Cold Challenge will begin on Thursday, February 20th at 8:00 a.m..
It will be at the Maplehurst Correctional Facility.
