Ontario’s new licence plates are available starting this month.
Milton MPP Parm Gill gives his thoughts on the changes.
Not only do they look different, but they also have a change to the Ontario slogan from “Yours to Discover” to “A Place to Grow”.
The Ford government replaced the almost 40-year-old slogan.
“A Place To Grow” comes from the song, ‘A Place to Stand’, which has been an unofficial anthem for Ontario since its use in a film that played at the province’s pavilion at Expo 67.
Minister of Government and Consumer Services, Lisa Thompson, explains.
Thompson says the lamination and quality on Ontario plates needed to be addressed.
Thompson says that if you want a new licence plate, you’re more than welcome to get one by visiting a ServiceOntario centre.
However, you won’t be able to keep your original licence plate number.
Thompson adds that if your plates are peeling or bubbling and you got them within the last five years, they will replace them free of charge.
