
In the past month, secondary school teachers and support staff in Halton have walked out in protest.
This is in response to the ongoing negotiations between the Province and the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation.
In Milton, teachers were outside of MPP Parm Gill’s office protesting during the day.
Jamie Newman, a teacher at Milton District High School, says these kinds of strikes can last a little while.
One of those in the cold was Julie Mirabelly, an occasional teacher with the OSSTF.
She says that despite teachers not bringing up the strike in the classroom they still get questions from students
The government says the main issue is compensation, as the province attempts to cap public sector salary increases at one per cent.
The union is asking for increases of approximately two per cent.
Milton MPP Parm Gill had this to say about the ongoing talks.
Some of the other issues between the two parties include increases to class sizes and mandatory e-learning requirements.
