Last week was Addictions Awareness Week.
myFM had the chance to speak with a registered nurse from CMHA’s Halton Region Branch, Danny Sud.
Their campaign this year is #Stigma Ends With Me which Sud says focuses on what stigma does to people in recovery or those going through the stages of recovery.
Sud says CMHA can never talk enough about the impacts stigma has on individuals during their recovery.
Sud talks resources including their 24/7 crisis line – COAST.
To get the conversation started, Sud recommends creating a safe environment where you ask the individual questions about their needs rather than jumping to a resolution for them.
Sud categorizes the four hallmarks of addiction under the 4Cs – craving, loss of control or the frequency to use, the compulsion to use and use despite consequences.
