The Canadian Urban Libraries Council have been gathering pledges from municipalities across the country to support them in making newly released ebooks more accessible.
Their goal is to approach the federal government to ask for help in getting fair pricing and fair access to ebooks after MacMillan publishers invoked a new policy on November 1st.
Chief Librarian at the Milton Public Library, Dave Hook, talks about this new policy and its impacts.
Two issues with this new policy is that it will result in long wait times and an increased cost of one ebook of $60 makes it harder for libraries to afford multiple copies.
Hook talks about how the federal government can help.
Hook expands on what Milton’s support means to the council.
Libraries are only allowed to keep the book for two years, which is problematic in an era where ebooks are in such high demand.
