
Climate change is top of mind for many youth around the world.
Students across the country walked out of school on Friday to demand a better future for themselves and younger generations.
High school student, Zoha went to Town Hall on Friday morning.
She believes that the walk outs will show those in authority that this is an emergency.
Zoha missed a lot to be able to walk out, saying her future and health are equally important.
Bee is one of the high school students who took to Town Hall demanding change.
She thinks she speaks for all youth in saying that climate change needs to be fixed and it’s something we can no longer put aside.
Green party candidate, Eleanor Hayward, said the afternoon movement was a fantastic turnout.
Liberal candidate, Adam Van Koeverden, was also at Town Hall on Friday morning and at Victoria Park in the afternoon.
He says he is inspired everytime he hears a young voice talking about their future, planet and what we’re going to do for the future.
At Victoria Park, the topic of the Town hiring a sustainability staff member was brought up.
Councillor Kristina Tesser Derksen talks about what that role would look like.
Councillor Tesser Derksen says that some people may find this role difficult to justify.
Adding that she doesn’t find it difficult at all as this person is going to step in and help them find funding and financing through different green initiative programs.
