
The Halton Region has declared climate an emergency.
Halton Regional Council decided to join municipalities across Canada in making the declaration on September 11th.
A statement from the Halton Region says that this motion deepens Halton’s commitment to protecting and improving the resilience of the economy, environment and community.
Chair of the Halton Region, Gary Carr, adds that by working with other levels of government, the conservation authorities, community partners and residents, we can continue to ensure that we’re prepared to respond to the climate emergency.”
The City of Burlington, Town of Halton Hills, Town of Milton and Town of Oakville have all made the declaration.
In the spring of 2020, staff will submit a report to regional council that will include: proposed short and long term climate change goals for the organization.
and an outline of Halton’s plan to achieve the four milestones of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities Partners for Climate Protection Program.
