The Halton Region Federation of Agriculture held what they called ‘Praise & Graze’ at Country Heritage Park on Wednesday night.
The event gave local farmers the platform to present to Milton’s federal election candidates during a provided dinner.
Farmers voiced their concerns and issues with current agriculture in the region, province, and country.
Incumbent Milton MP and Conservative Party representative for the Milton riding, Lisa Raitt, was in attendance.
She says the red tape around labour laws may need to be discussed.
HRFA Board of Directors member Peter Lambrick echoes Raitts comments.
He says they want to be able to hire labour without the red tape that has followed immigrants in the past.
Lambrick feels that’s the only way they will be able to get food from the fields to the stores in the time required for mass production.
Milton’s Green Party candidate, Eleanor Hayward was one of several who attended.
She says there needs to be more of a focus on local agriculture.
The federal election campaigns are now underway.
The election will take place on October 21st.
Milton’s candidates are (in alphabetical order by their Party):
– Conservative Party: Lisa Raitt
– Green Party: Eleanor Hayward
– Liberal Party: Adam van Koeverden
– New Democrats Party: Farina Hassan
– People’s Party of Canada: Percy Dastur
