Woodbine Mohawk Park will be receiving $20,000 from the Town of Milton.
The money will be going towards paying for fireworks for next year’s Canada Day celebration.
This past year was the last year that Milton’s Canada Day Committee would hold the event. They had decided to step down as a group.
Town and Regional Councillors for Ward 1, Kristina Tesser Derksen and Colin Best, say they both went to staff with concerns for next year’s celebration.
Councillor Tesser Derksen shares why Woodbine made sense as a suitable replacement.
Regional Councillor for Ward 1, Colin Best, says $20,000 is roughly what you’d expect for the show.
He adds onto that by saying it was roughly what the previous volunteer committee had been paying for their firework display.
Best, says the issue for the committee was never the money, but rather, the work involved.
As of now, Woodbine Mohawk Park is only confirmed to host next year’s Canada Day celebration.
Council also notes that people shouldn’t be discouraged from hosting any festivities themselves on the day.
