Premier Doug Ford was in Lucan on Tuesday along with the Minister of Agriculture, the Minister of Infrastructure and Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MPP Monte McNaughton.
The Premier announced a plan for better internet and cell phone service for rural Ontario, which would ensure that no community in the province is left behind.
According to the Premier, 12% of Ontario communities or over 200 thousand families don’t have access to fast reliable and affordable internet and cell service.
Premier Ford says the government is investing $315 million dollars to get shovels into the ground to improve broadband and cellular connection; and it’s all part of the new Ontario Broadband and Cellular Action Plan.
Premier Ford says the government is making sure no community is left behind.
Infrastructure Minister Laurie Scott says the plan is a first of its kind for the province.
She added that the plan will ensure better service to rural and small-town Ontario that don’t have the service or that’s under-served.
“Our government is committed to help businesses, families and farms stay connected, no matter where they live,” said Parm Gill, MPP for Milton. “Our investment will get shovels in the ground, get infrastructure built, and get people and business connected in Milton and across the province.”
Ontario’s plan is expected to generate up to $1 billion in total investment over five years, resulting in new connections for up to 220,000 homes and businesses.
