
At last night’s meeting, town councillors and staff heard delegates speak on the need for Milton to declare a state of emergency surrounding climate change.
Councilllor Kristina Tesser Derksen says that she and other councillors had discussed the need to join other municipalities in declaring a state of emergency.
She talks about why it’s necessary.
Councillor Tesser Derksen adds that not declaring a state of emergency like other municipalities have may have created some dissonance between Milton and citizen groups that are asking for the declaration.
Regional Councillor Colin Best gives some examples of why it is an emergency to councillors concerned about the term.

Since they don’t have this position, she is hoping that town staff and councillors will take it into consideration with the budget.
Another motion to help the issue of climate change is to have charging stations for electric vehicles.
