Halton Region in 2018 was asking for help with a Seniors Dental Plan and they received from the Province.
Now they are asking for adjustments when the plan gets implemented.
Last week they passed a motion asking the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care for flexibility to provide the plan using a fee for service model, with local private dentists.
They would then be reimbursed, rather than a salaried staff model.
However, President of the Ontario Dental Association, Dr. Kim Hansen says the Province left holes in the program.
Dr. Hansen added that Halton’s approach to the plan is an effective one because of the relationship they already have with there practices.
In total, the Region of Halton has received just over $1.2 million for the program.
Dr. Hansan also added there is already a template that the Province can use to implement the program.
The next steps for the Region of Halton is to wait for a reponse from the Province.
