It may soon be easier to catch drivers who don’t stop for school buses.
Halton Regional Police have proposed a pilot project where video cameras would be installed on the exterior of some school buses.
The additions would capture video proof of drivers who ignore the school buses stop-arm that is intended to halt traffic for children to cross the road safely.
The proposal follows the decision to install cameras inside of Halton school buses.
The project was discussed at yesterday’s Halton Regional Council meeting.
It is anticipated that the pilot program will have a camera installed on a minimum of one school bus with the goal to have it implemented at the beginning of the 2019/2020 school year.
